Coming off a troublesome 2010-2011 season, the 2011-2012 skating Crusaders have the opportunity to take a big step forward this year. With key seniors returning such as Zach Salgado, Jack Kint, Charlie Metzler, and experienced goalie Mike Piemonte; the team has come into this season with a new attitude. With a highly touted group of freshman joining the squad, Rice knew they had something special.
The 2011-2012 campaign began with a competitive loss to Catholic League powerhouse Fenwick. However, the Crusaders soon bounced back with an important victory over St. Ignatius, showing their will to succeed. The Crusaders have battled throughout the season thus far including one of the most challenging schedules in the area. When facing rival schools like Saint Rita, Mount Carmel, Providence, and Fenwick, wins never come easily. Yet the Crusaders display heart and willingness to compete in every contest. “There’s something different about this year’s team, and we definitely needed a new attitude after last year,” said senior Jack Kint.
The upcoming schedule does not let up as games against Marist, Benet, and Saint Viator remain to be played. If the Crusaders continue giving solid effort in each match up, they will likely grind out a few more victories. Come and support your Crusaders when they face rival Marist on December 4.
