‘‘One of the main reasons why I chose Brother Rice was because of their bass-fishing program,’’ he emailed. ‘‘I knew they had a solid team with solid coaches.’’
Moriarty and fellow senior Joe Hays have high expectations for the sectional at the Des Plaines Conservation Area. Sectionals for the sixth year of the Illinois High School Association’s bass-fishing state tournament will be held Friday. The state finals are May 9-10 at Carlyle Lake.
‘‘[Moriarty and Hays are] two of the best fishermen we have ever had and four-year starters on our team,’’ Crusaders assistant coach James Opoka emailed. ‘‘It’s nice to see how high school fishing is evolving and maturing.’’
Brother Rice qualified for state in the inaugural season of bass fishing in 2009, then again the last two years, including winning the sectional at Wolf Lake in 2012.
