Hurricane Sandy sent strong winds to the Midwest with gusts more than 25 knots and waves up to 6 feet, making for challenging conditions on Saturday. The weather proved too tough on Sunday, forcing the competition to be called due to small craft warnings. Top performances were turned in by B rotation team Zach Pakula and Diana Sanchez with best finishes of a third and a fourth. Zach also teamed up with crew Cole Hanson while Russ Mullane skippered with crew Caroline Janecki and rookie freshman Blake Weglarz.
The fall season is coming to a rapid close with a practice regatta Saturday in Spring Lake Michigan, and the Great Lakes Championships will take place November 10 (10:00 A.M.- 4:00 P.M.) and November 11 (10:00 A.M. -2:00 P.M.) at the Chicago Yacht Club, Belmont Station. As the boats are cleared from the harbor, this competition will take place in harbor, which makes for great spectating.
