Keep the world’s smallest violin in its case. Garrett Dederichs and Brother Rice aren’t much for complaining.
Nor do the Crusaders expect anyone to feel sorry for them after losing Jimmy Baker, the reigning Catholic League Player of the Year, to a season-ending broken tibula last month.
“(Baker’s) arguably the best player on the team, so it hurts us a lot,” Dederichs said. “But as far as coming back from that, I think we’ve done the best we possibly could.”
Brother Rice is the rare team with the weapons to overcome the loss of a star attacker. It hasn’t hurt that Dederichs is playing like a man possessed at the net.
