Sandburg advanced to face Brother Rice at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the sectional championship match with a trip to the state quarterfinals on the line. Sandburg and the Crusaders split two matches during the regular season.
It was another balanced effort for Brother Rice in the nightcap, punching its ticket to the sectional finals with a 25-17, 25-14 victory over St. Rita.
Lewis recruit Joe Kenzinger landed seven kills for Brother Rice (29-9), while Ryan Banky and Kyle Springer each had six kills.
“St. Rita beat us last time,” said Kenzinger, the Lawless Player of the Year in the Catholic League. “It was at home on our senior night. We kind of just wanted to whoop on them.”
