Over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend, the Brother Rice baseball program was hard at work in St. Louis. On Friday night, the Crusaders took on #4 ranked Plainfield North and defeated them 9-5 with a huge comeback win. Ryan Maher had the huge blow, delivering a key 3 RBI triple. Marquis Jackson and Mike Hopkins had big days at the plate. Zack Litke turned the tide, delivering 3 innings of great relief work. On Saturday, the Crusaders lost to #3 ranked O’ Fallon. Eric Diaz pitched wonderfully in relief, and Sam Jones added a huge solo blast. Patrick Hayes added a big RBI single.
On Sunday, the freshman Crusaders swept the Mustangs of St. Rita. In the first game, the Crusaders defeated St. Rita 7-3 behind Armani Garcia’s huge double with 2 RBIs. Mike Bernas was brilliant in relief, striking out 3 in two innings. Sebastian Barrera and Ben Guzek pitched well to pace the Crusaders. In game 2, the Crusaders won 5-2 behind Jeremiah Powell’s great day at the plate. Tom Hermanson, Jack Sullivan, Matt Maloney, and Andy Sloyan pitched a gem.
