The track & field team competed in the IHSA sectional meet at Morton High School on Friday, May 18. The Crusaders placed 7th overall and qualified in 4 events for the state meet. Josh Boulanger had a PR with a leap of 45’7” to win the sectional title in the triple jump! Second place finishes came from Tommy Gleeson in the 800, Justin Palmer in the 300 hurdles in a dramatic finish for the 2nd year in a row, and the 4×400 team of Brendan Coghlan, Boulanger, Palmer, and Ty McCoy. All of these athletes will compete on Friday, May 25, at the state championship meet at Eastern Illinois.
The frosh/soph track & field team placed 5th in the Catholic League Championship on Friday, May 4. Top performance came from Ronan Dolan, who placed 3rd in the triple jump and 4th in both the long jump & 400. Third place efforts came from Eddie Burke in the 3200; Nehemiah Ray in the 400; and the 4×8 team of Charlie Fitzgerald, Alex MacFarlane, Matt Quattrocchi, & Mikey Corcoran. Willie Shaw had a strong race to finish 4th in the 100.
The varsity team also competed on Friday in the highly talented Thornton Classic. The top performance came from the 4×4 team of Brendan Coghlan, Tommy Gleeson, Leo Staudacher, and Justin Palmer. This Saturday is the varsity Catholic League Championship at Loyola.
The track & field team had a busy weekend. This past Thursday, April 26, the frosh/soph team placed 3rd at the Evergreen Park Invitational. Event champions were Eddie Burke in the 3200; the 4×8 team of Charlie Fitzgerald, Matt Quattrocchi, Joseph Eloby, and Kevin Lynch; the 4×1 team of Jacquez Young, Dwayne Moorehead, Nehemiah Ray, and Willie Shaw; and the 4×4 team of Burke, Mikey Corcoran, Harrison Morg, and Fitzgerald.
The varsity team was at Sandburg for the Pete Struck Classic on Thursday. Tommy Gleeson won the 800, going under 2 minutes for the 1st time. Second place efforts came from Josh Boulanger in the triple jump and Marquise Kennedy in the high jump. Boulanger is currently ranked 9th in the state.
On Saturday, April 28, the entire team took part in the Friar Invite at Triton College. Event winners for the Crusaders were Ronan Dolan in the triple jump, Eddie Burke in the 1600, and Willie Shaw in both the 100 and 200. The frosh/soph team will compete in the Catholic League Championship at Concordia University on Thursday, May 3, while the varsity travels to Thornton on Friday, May 4.
The track & field team hosted the 12th Annual Rice Relays on Friday, April 21. The Crusader team finished 2nd in the 10-team field.
Event champions were Tre Gladney, Matt Cegielski, Brian McElligott, and Tommy Gleeson in the sprint medley.
Strong 2nd place efforts came from Dan Spellman in the elite 1600; the distance medley team of Spellman, McElligott, Brendan Coghlan, and Gleeson; the triple jump relay of Nico Perez, Ronan Dolan, Adrian Campos, & Erik Estrada; the 300 hurdle team of Justin Palmer, Charlie Fitzgerald, and Dan Zapata; as well as the frosh/soph 4×800 team of Alex MacFarlane, Mikey Corcoran, Matt Quattrocchi, and Eddie Burke.
The track & field team competed in the Oak Lawn Invite on Friday, April 13. The Crusaders won by the slimmest of margins, 92.33-92 over the host Spartans.
The meet came down to the final event which required a victory to capture the team title. The 4×400 team of Brian McElligott, Tommy Gleeson, Brendan Coghlan, and Ty McCoy delivered with an exciting and convincing win. Josh Boulanger was a double winner in both the long jump and triple jump.
Other event winners included Gleeson in the 800m; the frosh/soph 4×800 team of Eddie Burke, Mikey Corcoran, Matt Quattrocchi, and Harrison Morg; as well as the frosh/soph 4×400 team Burke, Corcoran, Adrian Campos, and Joseph Eloby.
The team will be back in action on Tuesday, April 17, at Marmion Academy before returning home on Friday night to host the 12th Annual Rice Relays.
On Saturday, February 17, 2018, the track and field team competed in the Thornton Invite. The Crusaders were champions at the frosh-soph level, beating runner-up Eisenhower 100-47.
Giacomo Iraci won the 300m dash in a frosh-soph school record time and also won the 60m dash. Ronan Dolan set the frosh-soph school record for the indoor long jump, won the triple jump, and placed 2nd in the 300. Other event champions include the 4×200 relay team of Malachi Dameron, Jacquez Young, Dwayne Moorehead, and Adrian Campos; Mikey Corcoran in the 600; Liam McElligott in the 60 high hurdles; and Harrison Morg in the 800.
Second place finishes came from Mike Davis in the shot put and the 4×400 team of Morg, Corcoran, Dameron and Joe Eloby. The varsity team placed 4th, only two points out of second. Event champions were Brian McElligott in the 600 and Dan Spellman in the 1600.
The team will compete in the ICOPS Invite at Lewis University on Sunday, February 25.
The frosh/soph track & field team capped off a dominant season by defending their indoor title and winning the Catholic League championship on Thursday, May 4, 2017. It’s the 3rd title in the last five years.
The Crusaders scored 115 points, beating runner-up Providence by 25 points. Ty McCoy was the 400m champion and the team of Justin Palmer, Giacomo Iraci, Tommy Gleeson, and Dylan Summers sealed the win by taking the 4×4 crown in the last event of the day. Palmer also had a couple of 2nd place finishes in both the high hurdles and intermediate hurdle races. Iraci and Summers were also part of the 3rd place 4×1 along with Jessi Plunkett and Ronan Dolan, as well as the 2nd place 4×2 with Tre Gladney and Malachi Dameron.
Third place finishes came from Jayshon Means in the high jump, Darren Evans in 300 hurdles, Zach Wareyko in the shot put, Gleeson in the 800 and McCoy in the 200. Other medalists were John McGlynn in the shot put and discus and Dominic Murphy in the pole vault. he varsity team will compete at Thornridge on Friday, May 5.
This past Friday, the Field & Track team competed in the 11th Annual Rice Relays. The Crusaders took the team championship for the 5th straight year besting runner-up St. Laurence by just six and a half points.
Event champions came from the High Jump team of Jim Baker, Josh Boulanger, and Jayshon Means, along with the Frosh/Soph 4×800 team of Dan Spellman, Harrison Morg, Matt Reidy, and Tommy Gleeson. Strong 2nd place performances came in the Long Jump, Triple Jump, and Distance Medley teams.
This Thursday the Frosh/Soph team will compete at Evergreen Park, while the Varsity will travel to Sandburg on Friday for the Pete Struck Classic.
Last Thursday the Frosh/Soph Track & Field team won the Evergreen Park Invite in dominant fashion winning by over 30 points. The Crusaders were victorious in 3 of the 4 relays which included setting a freshmen school record in the 4×400 with the team of Harrison Morg, Giacomo Iraci, Caleb Snoddy, and Ronan Dolan. Dolan was a 3 event champion as he won the triple jump and was also a part of the winning 4×100 team along with Tre Gladney, Dylan Summers and Iraci. Justin Palmer won the 110 high hurdles and Ty McCoy was a double winner taking both the 100 and 200. The winning 4×800 team consisted of Snoddy, Pat McGann, David Wolf and Dominic Murphy. This Thursday the team will attempt to win their third Catholic League championship in the last five years at Concordia University.
