This past Saturday, the Cross Country team opened up their season at the Lyons Township Invite. The top time of the day for the Crusaders came from Joe Sweeney who placed 25th in the Varsity race in a time of 15:49. Dan Spellman was the lone medalist by capturing 8th place in the Sophomore race in a new personal best time of 16:54. The top performer in the Freshmen race was Kevin Tracy who crossed the line in 54th. This Saturday, the team will compete in the Reavis Invitational.
On Saturday, October 31, 2015, the cross country team competed in the IHSA 2A Sectional at Kress Creek Farm in West Chicago. The team placed 6th in the 18 team field.
Despite the nonstop rain and poor course conditions, the Crusaders ran their best team race of the season, one place away from earning a state bid.
Junior Joe Sweeney finished 18th overall to make him Brother Rice’s first state qualifier in four years. Joe will race on Saturday, November 7, in Peoria at Detweiller Park at noon.
On Saturday, October 24, 2015, the cross country team competed in the IHSA Regional at Midlothian Meadows. The team did not have their best day, placing 6th out of 10 teams. However, the Crusaders did still manage to advance to the sectional meet for the chance to qualify for the state finals. The team will race this Saturday, October 31, in West Chicago at Kress Creek Farm at 11:00 A.M.
On Saturday, October 17, 2015, the cross country team competed in the Catholic League Championship at Lewis University. On the day, 15 out of 20 runners set personal bests. The varsity placed 6th as a team, with All-Catholic League honors going to Joe Sweeney who finished 18th. Steve Sloan had a strong race to take 7th in the sophomore race.
The freshmen Crusaders were 5th overall. Dan Spellman’s 9th place performance in 17:33 now ranks him as the 9th fastest freshman in school history. This Saturday the team will compete in the IHSA Regional at Midlothian Meadows.
On Saturday, October 3, 2015, the cross country team traveled to Wheaton to compete in the Warrior Classic. The team finished 5th overall. The top finisher, once again, for the Crusaders was Joe Sweeney, who crossed the line in 7th place. Jake Rafferty set a PR as did Caesar Torres by 21 seconds.
In the Open race, top performances and PR’s were turned in by Tommy Gleeson in 2nd and Dan Spellman in 7th. The team has a bye this week before the Catholic League Championship at Lewis University on October 17.
On Thursday, October 1, 2015, the frosh/soph cross country team competed in the Joe Mortimer Invite at Turtlehead Lake. The freshman team placed 11th out of 22 teams. The Crusaders’ top finisher was Tommy Gleeson who came in 19th out of 217 runners. Other medal winners were Dan Spellman in 28th and Jack Reddington in 94th.
In the sophomore race, Steve Sloan ran a personal best time by 18 seconds to place 18th out 232 competitors. The entire team will travel to Wheaton for the Warrior Classic on Saturday, October 3.
On Saturday, September 26, 2015, the cross country team competed in the Tinley Park Invitational at Midlothian Meadows. The varsity ran a tough team race to take 3rd overall in the 16 team field. Joe Sweeney was the Crusaders’ top performer after placing 7th.
The frosh/soph team took 8th out of 13 schools. All 7 runners ran personal best times. Steve Sloan led the way with his 5th place finish. On Thursday the frosh/soph team will travel to Turtlehead Lake and the entire team will be at Wheaton on Saturday, October 3.
On Saturday, September 19, 2015, five members of the cross country team traveled to Peoria’s famous Detweiller Park to compete in the Richard Spring Invitational. The Crusaders placed 42nd in the 63 team field. The top runners for the Crusaders were Joe Sweeney and Jack Mongan, both of whom ran personal best times.
Other members of the team competed in the Argo Invite. The top performance of the day came from sophomore Steve Sloan, who finished 8th in the frosh/soph race. The team placed 10th out of 15 schools. The team will compete in the Tinley Park Invite at Midlothian Meadows on Saturday, September 26.
On Saturday, September 12, 2015, the cross country team competed in the Reavis Invitational. The Crusaders placed 3rd in the 16 team field. Joe Sweeney led the way with a strong 7th place finish. Jack Mongan and Matt McKendry also had impressive performances finishing 10th & 19th. Steve Sloan set a personal record on his way to finishing 10th in the frosh/soph race as the team placed 11th out of 17 schools.
This Saturday, September 19, the top varsity runners will travel to Peoria to race in one of the biggest meets of the year on the state meet course, while the rest of the team competes at the Argo Invitational.
