Last weekend the Track & Field team competed in the ICOPS Invitational at Lewis University. The team placed 10th in the 23 team competition.
The 4×200 team of Rob Groyon, Jim Baker, Michael Butler-Kindle, and Anthony Butler ran a great race to place 2nd. Butler-Kindle was also a medalist in the 55 high hurdles with a 3rd place finish. Groyon had a great day earning 9th in the 55m dash and 6th in the 200m. Baker also got 5th in the Long Jump.
The 4×800 team of Steve Sloan, Brian McElligott, Tommy Gleeson and Jack Mongan had a strong showing capturing 4th. Dan Spellman ran a huge personal best of 25 seconds in the 3200m with a time of 10:21. Other athletes earning points were Ty McCoy in the 400m, Jayshon Means in the High Jump and Joe Sweeney in the 3200m.
This Saturday, the weight men will compete in the ‘King of the Ring’ tournament at Eisenhower.
This past Saturday the Cross Country team competed in the IHSA State Finals at historic Detweiller Park in Peoria. The Crusaders placed 23rd in the race. Five runners set personal bests by an average of 17 seconds including Steve Sloan, Tommy Gleeson, Dan Spellman, Justin Frias & Jack Reddington. The team finishes its season as regional champions and state finalists.
The cross country team ran in the IHSA sectional meet at Kress Creek Farm on Saturday, October 29. The Crusaders placed 5th, beating host Wheaton Academy by just one point, to grab the last qualifying spot for the state finals. This is just the 5th time in school history that the entire team has qualified.
The scorers for the Crusaders were Joe Sweeney (12th), Tommy Gleeson (26th), Steve Sloan (27th), Dan Spellman (32nd), and Jack Mongan (69th). Justin Frias placed 80th and Jack Reddington was 94th to round out the team. They will race this Saturday, November 5, at historic Detweiller Park in Peoria at noon.
On Saturday the Cross Country team won the IHSA Regional Championship. This is the 7th title in school history.
The Crusaders executed the race strategy beautifully by starting out in 6th place at the mile before taking control of the race. Joe Sweeney led the way with a 7th place finish. Steve Sloan (12th), Tommy Gleeson (15th), and Dan Spellman (17th) all ran personal bests. Jack Mongan was the final scorer in 24th place and passed a couple runners in the final 200 meters to seal the victory. Justin Frias finished 51st and Jack Reddington was 58th, also in a new personal best.
This Saturday the team will compete in the Wheaton Academy Sectional at Kress Creek Farms for the chance to become the 5th team in school history to qualify for the state finals.

Harrison Morg was the top finisher in the Freshmen race as all 5 Crusaders ran personal bests. Dan Spellman was a medalist in the Sophomore race finishing 8th. Joe Sweeney earned All-Catholic League honors placing 18th in the Varsity race. Steve Sloan and Chris Murphy also ran personal bests. This Saturday the team will compete in the IHSA Regional at Katherine Legge Memorial Park in Hinsdale.

On Saturday the Cross Country team competed at Kress Creek Farms in the Warrior Classic hosted by Wheaton Academy. The wet and muddy conditions made it a true Cross Country race.
The Varsity ran their best team race of the season to place 2nd out of 12 schools. It was a close finish with only 20 points separating 2nd and 6th place. The top performance came from Joe Sweeney in 10th. Tommy Gleeson set his 2nd PR in as many races to get 21st. Dan Spellman (25th), Jack Mongan (30th), and Steve Sloan (35th) rounded out the scoring for the Crusaders. Other personal best were set by Jack Reddington, Jeremy Frias, Harrison Morg, Grant Gierhahn (Gear-Hon), and Ryan Rice.
The team has a bye week before travelling to Lewis University on October 15th to host the Catholic League Championship.

Dan Spellman & Tommy Gleeson were the top finishers in the Frosh/Soph race placing 2nd and 5th overall.
Jack Mongan was the top performer in the Varsity race in 30th place, while Steve Sloan was the Open race champion.
This Thursday the Frosh/Soph team will travel to Turtlehead Lake to take part in the Joe Mortimer Invite.
The cross country team competed in the Argo Invite in Bedford Park on Saturday, September 17, 2016. The day got off to a great start as Dan Spellman won the frosh/soph race, followed by Tommy Gleeson in second. Jack Reddington also ran strong to place 22nd.
Six of the 7 Crusaders in the race set personal bests! Joe Sweeney was once again the varsity’s top finisher in 8th place, while Steve Sloan captured 25th. This week the team will be at Midlothian Meadows to take part in the Tinley Park Invitational.
On Saturday the Cross Country team competed in the 52nd Annual Reavis Rams Invite. In the Varsity race, Joe Sweeney took control after the mile and opened up a 20 yard lead on the field. His move turned out to be a little too much too soon as two other runners caught him in the final quarter mile. He was able to get one back and finish 2nd overall.
The Crusaders has two others in the top 25 with Jack Mongan (17th) and Steve Sloan (24th).
The Frosh/Soph placed 5th as a team. Dan Spellman was the top Crusader getting 3rd followed closely by Tommy Gleeson in 5th.
This Saturday the team will send four runners to Peoria to race at Detweiller Park, the site of the state meet, while the rest of the team will compete in the Argo Invite.
