On Saturday, the cross country team competed in the IHSA 3A Sectional Championship at Midlothian Meadows. The team placed 10th overall. It was the best team race of the year for the Crusaders. Once again, Dan Spellman was the top runners placing 28th, just missing a state qualifying birth. Eddie Burke posted a big performance running 15:54, which now makes him the 6th fastest sophomore in school history. Jimmy Maguire, Mikey Corcoran, Harrison Morg, & Alex MacFarlane all ran lifetime bests. Congratulations & thank you to senior captains Dan Spellman, Tommy Gleeson, Zach Brosseau, & David Wolf for their leadership the past four years. The dedication,sportsmanship and character you exhibit are what Br. Rice Cross Country is all about.
On Saturday the Cross Country team hosted that Catholic League Championship at Lewis University. The varsity team placed 6th. Dan Spellman ran a personal best and was the top senior taking 3rd overall. Jimmy Maguire and Zach Brosseau also ran PR’s. The sophomore team placed 4th. Eddie Burke was the individual champion in a course record time! Mikey Corcoran ran a great race taking 4th. Kevin Lynch had a strong performance as well. The freshmen team took 5th with Dylan Warda leading the way in 11th. Jack Finnell had a great race finishing 20th. This Saturday the team will compete in the IHSA Regional Championship at Reavis and shoot for their 2nd title in three years.
On Saturday, September 29, the cross country team traveled to Montrose Harbor to compete in the 41st Lakefront Invitational. The varsity team placed 5th in the 22 team field. Dan Spellman was the top finisher for the Crusaders in 6th place. Sophomores Eddie Burke and Mikey Corcoran had their second strong race in three days. Jimmy Maguire and Tommy Gleeson rounded out the scoring. The frosh/soph team took 7th led by Sean Deane in 28th place. The team has a bye this weekend before returning to action on Saturday, October 14, as they host the Catholic League Championship at Lewis University.
The frosh/soph cross country team competed in the Joe Mortimer Invite at Turtlehead Lake on September 27. The sophomore team tied for 6th place. For the 2nd consecutive race, Eddie Burke finished in the runner-up spot, this time in a new personal best of 16:31. Mikey Corcoran also ran a PR taking 22nd. Sean Deane, Matt Quattrocchi, Kyle Gallagher, & Kevin Lynch were all medal winners. The freshmen team placed ninth. The top Crusader was Dylan Warda. Other medal winners were Nelson Lopez, Jack Finnell, and Jack Antonsen. Tomorrow the team competes in the Lakefront Invitational at Montrose Harbor.
On Saturday the cross country team competed in the Tinley Park Invite at Midlothian Meadows. The varsity Crusaders placed 3rd overall led by Dan Spellman’s third place finish. Tommy Gleeson, Jimmy Maguire, Alex MacFarlane, & Harrison Morg all had strong races. The frosh/soph team took 5th behind Eddie Burke’s runner-up finish. This Saturday the team will travel to Montrose Harbor for the Lakefront Invitational.
Last weekend the Track & Field team competed in the ICOPS Invitational at Lewis University. The team placed 10th in the 23 team competition.
The 4×200 team of Rob Groyon, Jim Baker, Michael Butler-Kindle, and Anthony Butler ran a great race to place 2nd. Butler-Kindle was also a medalist in the 55 high hurdles with a 3rd place finish. Groyon had a great day earning 9th in the 55m dash and 6th in the 200m. Baker also got 5th in the Long Jump.
The 4×800 team of Steve Sloan, Brian McElligott, Tommy Gleeson and Jack Mongan had a strong showing capturing 4th. Dan Spellman ran a huge personal best of 25 seconds in the 3200m with a time of 10:21. Other athletes earning points were Ty McCoy in the 400m, Jayshon Means in the High Jump and Joe Sweeney in the 3200m.
This Saturday, the weight men will compete in the ‘King of the Ring’ tournament at Eisenhower.
This past Saturday the Cross Country team competed in the IHSA State Finals at historic Detweiller Park in Peoria. The Crusaders placed 23rd in the race. Five runners set personal bests by an average of 17 seconds including Steve Sloan, Tommy Gleeson, Dan Spellman, Justin Frias & Jack Reddington. The team finishes its season as regional champions and state finalists.
The cross country team ran in the IHSA sectional meet at Kress Creek Farm on Saturday, October 29. The Crusaders placed 5th, beating host Wheaton Academy by just one point, to grab the last qualifying spot for the state finals. This is just the 5th time in school history that the entire team has qualified.
The scorers for the Crusaders were Joe Sweeney (12th), Tommy Gleeson (26th), Steve Sloan (27th), Dan Spellman (32nd), and Jack Mongan (69th). Justin Frias placed 80th and Jack Reddington was 94th to round out the team. They will race this Saturday, November 5, at historic Detweiller Park in Peoria at noon.
