Track Takes 4th at CCL

On Saturday, May 12, the track team took 4th at the Chicago Catholic League Championship.  All-Catholic League honors were awarded to Kevin Jones, who placed 5th in the triple jump, long jump and 3rd in the high jump; Sam Jaros took 4th in the pole vault; Marcus Cheatom placed 3rd in the shot put; Pat Mahoney came away with 3rd in the 300 hurdles; Dan Caddigan placed 5th in the mile; and Cody Stull took 4th in the shot put.  Event runner-ups were Marcus Cheatom in the discus and the 2 mile relay team of Emmet McClain, Aaron Larson, Dan Caddigan and Dennis Hasty.  Cody Stull was also the discus champ. On Thursday, May 17,  the team will compete in the St. Ignatius Sectional at Concordia University for the right to qualify for the state meet.

Track Teams Perform at CCL and Thornton

The Brother Rice freshman/sophomore track team competed in the Catholic League Championship on Friday, May 4.  The team finished in 6th place.  Top performances came from Joe Kole (5th in the discus), Sean McElligott (5th in the 300 hurdles), Sam Gettis (4th in the pole vault), James Durkin (4th in the 2 mile & 3rd in the mile), and Chris Rozell (5th in the long jump, 3rd in the high jump, and 400 meter champion).

On Saturday, May 5, the varsity team placed 4th at Thornton.  Third place finishes came from Pat Maguire in the mile, Cody Stull in the discus, Pat Mahoney in the 300 hurdles, and the 4×200 team of Steve Perez, Shaq Ridgner, Sean Lysaught and Tim Barry.  Finishing in 2nd place were Sam Jaros in the pole vault and Kevin Jones in the high jump.  Event Champions were Aaron Larson in the 2 mile, Dennis Hasty in the 800, and Dan Caddigan in the mile.  This Saturday, the team will compete in the Catholic League Championship at Loyola.

Track Takes 7th at Sandburg

The Brother Rice track team competed in the Eagle Classic at Sandburg on Thursday, April 26.  The team placed 7th out of 17 teams.  Top performances came from Kevin Jones (2nd in the high jump), Dan Caddigan (2nd in the 2 mile), and Marcus Cheatom and Cody Stull who placed 1st and 2nd in the discus.  Next Friday, May 4, the freshman/sophomore team will be at St. Laurence for the Catholic League Championship, while the varsity will travel to Thornton on Saturday, May 5.

Track Takes Home Rice Relays

The track team was victorious in the 6th Annual Rice Relays on Friday, April 20. The Crusaders outdistanced runner-up Providence 88-74 to earn the team title in the 12 school field.  First place finishes were turned in for three events including the high jump, shuttle hurdles, and the mile relay.  The team’s next meet will be Thursday, April 26, at Sandburg.

Crusader Track Places at Hillcrest

The Brother Rice track team finished in 4th place out of 14 teams at the Hillcrest Hawk Classic.  The team was led by event champions Dan Caddigan in the 2 mile and Marcus Cheatom in the discus.  Second place finishes were turned in by Mario Diaz in the shot put; the 2 mile relay team of Dennis Hasty, Anthony Maciag, Aaron Larson, and James Durkin; and the mile relay team of Shaq Ridgner, Chris Rozell, Dennis Hasty, and Sean Lysaught.  Finishing in 3rd place was Cody Stull in both the shot put and discus, and Kevin Jones in the high jump.  The team will compete this Saturday at the Oak Lawn Invite.

Track Competes at Catholic League Indoor Championships

This past weekend, the track team competed in the Catholic League Indoor Championships at the University of Chicago. The frosh/soph team placed 11th and the varsity finished 5th. Kevin Jones finished 2nd in the high jump and 3rd in the long jump. Dan Caddigan finished 3rd in the mile. The 2 mile relay team of Anthony Maciag, James Durkin, Dan Caddigan and Emmet McClain were event champions, unofficially.

Track Competes at Lewis

The Brother Rice track team competed in the I.C.O.P.S. Invitational at Lewis University this past weekend.  The team finished with a tie for 3rd out of 23 schools.  Top performers of the day include Kevin Jones, with a 2nd place in the high jump and 4th in the triple jump;  Marcus Cheatom, who took 3rd in the shot put; and the 2-mile relay team of Matt Bastien, Dennis Hasty, Anthony Maciag and Emmet McClain, who finished in 3rd place.  The frosh/soph team will travel to Evanston this Saturday.

Track Takes First at Wheeling Invite

Congratulations to the Brother Rice Track team, which won the Wheeling Invite for the second straight year, beating runner-up Lakes 125-88.  Event champions were Kevin Jones in the high jump and triple jump, Pat Mahoney in the 55 high hurdles, and the 2- mile relay team of Matt Bastien, Anthony Maciag, Dan Caddigan, and Aaron Larson.  Second place finishers were Marcus Cheatom in the shot put, Sam Jaros in the pole vault, Pat Mahoney in the intermediate hurdles, Steve Perez in the 200, Pat Maguire in the 1600, and the 4-lap relay team of Perez, Cody Stull, Chris Rozell and Shaq  Ridgner. The team’s next meet is Sunday at Lewis University.

Mahoney signs with St. Ambrose

Pat Mahoney, senior captain of the track team, signed his letter of intent to continue his career at St. Ambrose University.  Pat has been a four-year member of the track team, focusing on the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. He plans to major in history and is a graduate of St. John Fisher.

Jones Sets New School Record for High Jump

Senior Kevin Jones chalked up an amazing win as the Crusader track team opened up the 2012 season at Evanston last weekend.  Jones, number two in the state, won the high jump, and set a new school record in the process with a leap of 6’7!  Senior Dan Caddigan won both the 2 mile and mile, and junior Marcus Cheatom won the shot put.  Next week the team travels to Homewood-Flossmoor.
