Making the Olympic Developmental Program (ODP) soccer regional team for a second straight year, Jack Finnegan wanted to make the best of his second go-around.
Just making the team was an accomplishment, but the Br. Rice High School freshman wanted to do more.
Competing with the Region II team in Casa Grande, Ariz., in late November, Finnegan scored a goal and dished out an assist during the three games.
Finnegan competing at the national soccer regional is the Beverly Review Sportsfile Story of the Year.
“Just the experience itself, it was great. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done soccer-wise,” Finnegan said. “I had a tough time last year because I got down on myself. I had more confidence this year, and that helped me push through.”
Playing on the Region II Midwest team, Finnegan departed on Thanksgiving and trained for two days with his teammates before playing three games on a five-day whirlwind trip.
