CARY, N.C.—In its second game of the day at the 2017 National High School Invitational, Brother Rice scored five runs in the second and six in the fifth en route to a 12-1 win over Rocky Mountain.
“We knew we were going to compete, we knew our bats were going to come along, and I was really happy to see some guys swing the bat well,” coach John McCarthy said. “Brett (Bagus) had a huge hit that really got us going, and that gave us a lot of confidence.”
Bagus’ hit really got Brother Rice going. He fired the opening salvo with a bases-clearing triple in the second to give the Crusaders an early lead.
“I was looking for a fastball, and got what I wanted. Guys before me got on, and that helped me out,” Bagus said.
