The tennis team kicked off its season on March 21. The team’s first match was against St. Francis in Mt. Greenwood Park. Number one doubles pair, Ryan Cunnea and Brendan Leibforth, had a come-from-behind victory with the following scores: 2-6, 6-2, and 6-2. Number two doubles pair, Joe Mendala and Jeremy Zemgulys, had a cleansweep win, with scores of 6-2 and 6-2. The tennis team went on to have more wins against other schools, like DeLaSalle.
The team suffered some losses as well. Jeremy Zemgulys, a varsity doubles player, said, “The team as a whole is not doing so well. Together, we are not winning too many games.” Junior varsity player Scott Halko agreed with Jeremy’s statement. Scott said that the junior varsity is also not doing too well at their matches. Hearing that from any member of a Brother Rice team is upsetting, but the players are still holding their heads up high. They are continuing the season with great optimism.
